Ladera Ranch is a large unincorporated master-planned community in south Orange County, built starting in the year 2000 on land east of San Juan Capistrano and south of Rancho Santa Margarita. The community is organized into a series of villages, each with its own park, pool, and clubhouse, tied together by an extensive trail system. Housing spans attached townhomes, small-lot detached, and larger single-family and custom homes on the community's higher-elevation south side.

Ladera Ranch is organized geographically into a north side that built out first and a south side that came later, with the guard-gated Covenant Hills area on the south perimeter.

Elementary campuses embedded in the community include Ladera Ranch Elementary, Oso Grande Elementary, and Chaparral Elementary, feeding into Ladera Ranch Middle School and then either Tesoro High School or San Juan Hills High School depending on address. Ladera Ranch's defining amenities are its village pools, parks, and clubhouses, plus a substantial trail network that ties the community together. Founders Park and the Skate & Soccer Park serve the north side; South Village amenities include the Terramor and Covenant Hills clubs. Antonio Parkway is the main north-south spine, with quick access to the 5 freeway via Crown Valley Parkway and to Ortega Highway via Los Patrones Parkway.
