Northridge is a central-northwest San Fernando Valley neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, bounded by the 118 freeway to the north, Reseda to the south, Chatsworth to the west, and Granada Hills to the east. California State University Northridge (CSUN), one of the largest campuses in the CSU system with roughly 38,000 students, occupies the eastern half of the neighborhood and drives much of its character. Housing runs from mid-century ranch and post-war single-family tract on the valley floor to substantial estate homes in the pockets north of Devonshire.

The residential blocks north of Devonshire Street toward the 118 freeway. Substantial single-family homes on generous lots, with some hillside blocks climbing toward the Santa Susana Mountains and pockets of custom construction.

The residential core running from Devonshire south to Nordhoff Street. Predominantly mid-century ranch and post-war single-family tract on standard suburban lots, and one of the deepest tract-home footprints in the Valley.

The eastern half of the neighborhood is dominated by the Cal State Northridge campus and the adjacent residential blocks. Higher rental density tied to student housing demand, and a mix of single-family and multifamily along Reseda Boulevard.

The residential blocks south of Nordhoff Street toward Roscoe Boulevard and the boundary with Reseda. Predominantly mid-century single-family, with a smaller multifamily and townhome layer along the arterials.

Public elementary options include Beckford Charter, Andasol, and Balboa. Nobel Middle and Northridge Academy High are common secondary assignments.
