Tarzana is a San Fernando Valley neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, bounded by Encino to the east, Woodland Hills to the west, the Santa Monica Mountains ridge to the south, and the 101 freeway to the north. The neighborhood takes its name from Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose Tarzana Ranch stood on the property that became the community. Housing splits between valley-floor blocks north of Ventura Boulevard — mostly mid-century ranch and post-war stock — and hillside estates south of Ventura climbing into the mountains toward Mulholland Drive.
